These chairs were part of the series believed to have been designed for the country home of the industrialist W.Basset Lowke (See models 800 and 809). The client proved to be difficult and the design of the table with accompanying chairs was not accepted. Roger Billcliffe, author of the definitive catalogue of Mackintosh’s work feels that judging from the careful detailing of the executive drawings, Mackintosh considered this series as particularly important
