The Cesca, with its cantilevered structure in bent steel, was revolutionary for its time: lightweight, flexible, industrial, yet with artisanal details. Its name, "Cesca," is a tribute to Breuer’s adopted daughter, Francesca.
In the years following its creation—particularly in the postwar period, with the spread of modernist design in Europe and the United States—the Cesca chair was adapted into various versions, including the high bar or kitchen counter variant, often referred to as the Cesca stool.
